Discipline is defined as the practice of training people to obey rules or a code of behaviour, using punishment to correct disobedience. If any institution be it family, school, college, or workplace wants to function properly; discipline is to be maintained within it. For example, discipline in a family means that the members of the family follow a certain pattern in what they do like getting up going to bed on time, having their meals on time, etc which replicates a specific routine in life.
Discipline in a school and college means that the students should reach there on time, greet the teachers whenever they meet them, maintain silence wherever and whenever required like in a library, or attend all the functions held in the school and college etc. Discipline in the office or at any workplace means that all the working staff be it the employers or the employees should reach the workplace on time and also maintain the pre- defined code of conduct.
Thus, it is understood that for the successful functioning of any of the institutions on earth, maintenance of discipline is mandatory. But the bitter truth remains; discipline is not maintained by each and every individual at the same level. The presence of discipline in an individual’s life leads to phenomenal success and the contrary is true in the case of the absence of discipline.

Look at the examples of all the great men in history; Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Albert Einstein, all were successful in their lives because they lived a life of discipline. The famous industrialists such as Mukesh Ambani, Ratan Tata, Laxmi Mittal, or superstars like Amitabh Bachchan, Julia Roberts or even athletes such as Sania Mirza, Abhinav Bindra, all have attained outstanding success in their lives only because they follow a strict discipline in each and every area of their respective lives that they are in.
Expecting to attain success without having discipline in life is like expecting a fairy Godmother to solve all your problems just by moving her wand. It is impossible! If you take a closer look at both successful and unsuccessful individuals in life, you will essentially find one major difference between them, the successful people are disciplined while the unsuccessful ones are not disciplined. How can you expect your office and your staff to work properly if you being the manager do not reach your workplace on time?
Similarly you should not and you cannot expect success in life without proper discipline. Success will come down to your knees if you live a disciplined life.

Whether an individual will emerge disciplined or not largely depends up on his or her parents and family. A child is born in a family and it is the family where he or she first learns to remain disciplined. If the parents teach the child the importance of discipline at an early stage of life, the child will have no problem in facing the difficulties that life poses, but if the parents and the other family members are themselves not disciplined; this is what the child will learn. It is possible that the child learns discipline in the school with his or her peers, but then he or she would not be able to maintain the balance between his or her discipline and the family’s non- disciplinary manners. It is nearly impossible to strike a balance.
It has been wisely said “For every disciplined action there is a multiple reward”.
This saying is indeed true. If you exercise every day, you are bound to remain fit and healthy, if you maintain a proper routine to manage your work; you will never have workload etc. Life becomes easy if you have the habit of maintaining discipline and also difficult in the absence of discipline.
In the beginning maintaining discipline is admittedly tough but as time passes by, you become habituated to follow a disciplined life and a time comes when you cannot think of surviving without maintaining discipline. If you do not learn to maintain a disciplined life today, tomorrow life will teach you in a harder way. So better learn to become disciplined as early as possible. A disciplined individual has the capability to face all the challenges in his or her life easily.
