On opening the parcels we find that 7 copies of “General knowledge” are missing. As the parcels were intact it appears that these copies were not included.
Will you please therefore either send these books to us or credit this amount to our account?

Dear Sirs,
We have just received your letter of 9th November and are sorry to learn that you have observed a shortage of 7 copies of “General Knowledge”.
All our goods are checked twice before packing both individually and collectively and chances of any shortage, whatsoever, are minimised.
ADVERTISEMENTS:
May we therefore request you to please verify once again if you have not received 7 copies excess of any other book? In any case please let us have your reply per return
and we assure you we shall do our best to give you fullest satisfaction.

Dear Sirs,
We are sorry to learn from your letter of 9th November that you have observed a shortage of 7 copies of “General Knowledge” in your parcels.
On checking the matter at our end we find that through an oversight these books were included in the parcels of M/s Thompson & Sons of your town which was also packed on the same day. We have today received a telephone call from M/s Thompson and Sons also confirming the same.
In any case the fault is entirely ours and we regret very much for the same.
7 Copies of the book are being sent per registered post tomorrow.
We assure you, we shall take fullest care to see that such a thing does not happen again.
