He started his career as a lawyer. He joined the freedom movement after giving up his practice under the influence of Gandhiji.

He was imprisoned several times. Congress decided to boycott the Simon Commission. When he was leading demonstration at Lahore he received several blows when police resorted to lathi charge.

He declared that every blow on his body will be a nail in Coffin of British Empire. As a result of those blows he died three weeks later. The whole country plunged into grief. There were violent demonstrations throughout the country.

He was devoted to religion, love for the motherland and faith in God. He was a brave man. His death was a great blow to the Freedom Movement. Everybody respected him for his courage and self sacri­fice.

His heart was full of kindness and sympathy for all human beings. He was really a true patriot and a great nationalist.
