Michael Jeffrey Jordon, the popular American basketball star was born on February 17, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York. His childhood was reasonably comfortable with both his parents working in decent occupations, his father James Jordan being an electric plant mechanic and his mother Deloris Jordan being a bank teller.

The family moved to Wilmington, North California because the violence and the drug rackets were prominent in Brooklyn which made it unsafe for giving the right environment for growing up children.

Michael Jordon loved sports but his first passion was baseball that he loved playing with his father. Larry, his older brother was a pioneer in baseball and Michael looked up to him as an idol. Michael’s parents were always kept encouraging their children to change things around and be active participants in things around and not stay lazy at work.

Jordan was quite competitive from an early age and that is why when he was at Laney High school, he worked so hard at his built and game tactics that he qualified for selection to the McDonald’s All-American Team in the senior group by growing 4 inches and working extremely hard at the game practice. He also earned the basketball scholarship from University of North Carolina and was nominated the ACC Freshman of the year award. This was where his journey of success and achievements began. He entered the National Basketball Association draft after winning the title of Naismith College Player of the Year in year 1984.

His continuous excellent performance in the sports made him dominate the NBA and the basketball game for almost two decades from early 1980’s to late 1990s. He was chosen to play for Chicago bulls and got selected for the NBA all-star game after giving an amazing average of 28.2 game points for 6 games scoring a total of over 40 points. His success reached star-gazing heights as he won the National Basketball Association’s Most Valuable Player Award five times in a row.

Jordan represented the U.S. basketball team at Olympics held in the summer of 1984 at Los Angeles where the team won gold. He also helped the American team win gold at 1992 Olympics Games held in Barcelona, Spain.

Jordan was always instrumental to NBA and to the success of Chicago bulls. It was his strength and agility in the game that made the Bulls reach the Eastern Conference Finals in 1990 and make a significant NBA championship win playing against the Los Angeles Lakers in the finals.

Jordan’s successes were innumerable but his journey of accolades met a sudden end after his father’s brutal murder in July, 1993. He retired from the game in October 1993 at an age of 33. He took up the game of baseball that he had left 13 years back and played excellently for Double-A Birmingham Barons after signing a contract with the Chicago White Sox in 1994. He made a comeback in 2001-02 by announcing his return to the NBA as a member of Wizards. He did play well but also had to skip certain games due to injuries that lead to his dismissal as the Washington Wizards after playing two seasons for them.
