In the advanced countries like the USA there is the lane system and the vehicles, mostly cars, motorbikes, school buses and public transport buses, strictly follow the lane system. Vehicles go one after another systematically and they go at a particular speed. At the turns, the cars, motorbikes or buses, stop automatically, and then turn, even if no vehicle or person comes. The vehicle drivers see to it that the traffic rules are not violated. Here in India vehicles do not follow one another and they stop side by side and each vehicle tries to overtake the other. Here in India there are many types of vehicles like cars, small vans, big vans, public transport buses, lorries carrying goods, water supply lorries, motorbikes, cycle-rickshaws, auto rickshaws, cycles and bullock-carts. If there is a railway crossing all types of vehicles stop till the railway gate is opened. When the railway gate is opened vehicles try to overtake one another and there is heavy traffic.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

The traffic management system is most unsatisfactory in the cities like Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kolkata and Delhi. It seems that the types of vehicles that should run on the road have been restricted in the U.S.A and in some other countries so that traffic management is easy. When small vehicles and big vehicles run side by side and do not follow one another there is traffic jam. In the USA the cattle are not allowed on the road. One vehicle overtaking another is the cause of accidents sometimes.

If a vehicle overtakes another in the narrow bridges there is every chance of an accident. It is a pity that at nights and even during the day vehicles coming in the opposite directions travel at terrible speed and the gap between them may be just a foot. Any error in driving may result in accidents.

There should be a median all along the national highway so that the vehicles coming in the opposite directions may not dash against one another head on. This kind of headlong collision between one vehicle and another is a frequent occurrence in India and this should be avoided.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

First of all the traffic rules should be observed by the driver of every vehicle. There should be the lane system everywhere so that vehicles can follow one another. The autoricksaw drivers should not drive in between vehicles with the idea of overtaking other vehicles. Buses and Lorries should be driven cautiously and at turns the utmost caution should be taken. Safety and caution should be the watchwords of the drivers of vehicles. The drivers of vehicles who violate the traffic rules should be severely punished.
